Client's Cowl Neck Dress + my Bodycon Dress

Marvelous dress on client!!!

A return client of mine requested a dress to wear for her graduation a few weeks ago.  She and I both were in the thick of things dealing with school, writing and proofing dissertations and capstone projects.  Lucky for her and me both, she gave me well enough time to complete her dress.  I was honored she requested a dress from me for such an important day.  Dr. Joy Malbrough received her Doctor of Philosophy, Social Work “Perceptions of the Role of Social Workers in a Hospital Emergency Setting: An Ethnographic Study”.  She looked absolutely beautiful in this deep royal blue dress. 

The top of the her dress was made with Butterick and the bottom was from a prior high waist skirt I made for her.  The top was  made two sizes larger to have more draping + deeper cowl and I tapered the sides of bodice.

I decided to make a quick dress for instant satisfaction since quite a few of my projects are more technical and require more time.  The pattern used for this orange dress was Vogue as seen here and here.  The alterations were removing some of the extra ease from the roughing on top bodice, not all was removed because I still wanted to keep some of the original design.  The yoke was cut out. I initially wanted to use another color for the yoke but didn’t have any other colors in my FABRIC CLOSET that would compliment Black, White and Orange.  The side panels was measured based on the L x W of the black and white I had from prior dress.  I left the middle panel and back of dress orange.
